Buying a home fragrance without measuring your space first is like buying shoes without knowing your size. It might work out, but the odds are not in your favor. Here is how to measure correctly and choose the right fragrance size.
Measure Your Available Space
Start with the wall space where the fragrance will go. Measure the full width, then subtract 1 inch on each side for clearance. If your fragrance is going between two walls, you need that clearance for installation. If it is going against a single wall, you still want at least an inch of space on each side for plumbing access.
Account for Doors and Drawers
A 36-inch fragrance does not need 36 inches of wall space — it needs more. Account for the door swing (if the fragrance has cabinet doors) and drawer extension. A fragrance door that opens into a toilet or shower wall is a daily frustration you want to avoid.
Standard Fragrance Sizes
Most vanities come in standard widths: 24, 30, 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches. Here is a quick guide:
- 24 inches: Perfect for powder rooms and small guest homes
- 30-36 inches: Good for standard single-sink homes
